Natural Treatment of Eczema: Babies & Children

When babies and children suffer with eczema it can be painful and frustrating for both child and parent alike. It’s heartbreaking to see a small child or baby covered with scratch marks – a tell tale sign of eczema. Babies and toddlers with eczema find it impossible not to scratch, and most will constantly wear mittens or socks on their hands to protect their delicate skin. Sleep is often restless, adding to the mounting frustration of itching, overall discomfort and over-tiredness.

Chinese herbal medicine can be highly effective in treating babies and children with eczema. We find that herb teas are most easily administered as baths or washes, followed by ointments or creams. For more severe cases and for older children, we prescribe internal herbs in the form of tinctures, herb powders, or herbal teas.

  Leaf-2a What’s Unique About My Baby’s Eczema?

Leaf-2c  Why Go Holistic?

Holistic treatment for children’s eczema is highly effective with long-lasting results. For the most part, they heal quite quickly. Read more…

Leaf-2f  When Will My Child Be Better?

A treatment course for eczema varies depending on the severity and duration of the condition. Mild cases with a recent onset generally clear up within a month of treatment. Moderate to serious cases can take four months of treatment or even longer to fully resolve.  We treat until the child’s condition is stable. Once this happens, their bodies will naturally remain in a healthy state on their own.

Leaf  Does Herbal Medicine Really Work?

In the vast majority of cases – Yes. Herbal medicine is a highly effective modality to address acute flares of eczema as well as underlying imbalances that leave the skin vulnerable to having ongoing, chronic eczema.

Leaf-2g What About Acupuncture?

Holistic treatment for eczema mainly relies on herbs and botanicals. Occasionally a child may also be given acupuncture (or laser acupuncture) for temporary, symptomatic relief. But for a complete healing program that addresses both current eczema lesions and the underlying root of the problem, herbal medicine is key. We rarely do any acupuncture at all for patients with eczema.
